Gastric Cancer
Gastric cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the epithelial cells of the gastric mucosa, and it is one of the cancers with a high mortality rate from cancer worldwide. The development of gastric cancer may be related to a variety of factors, including heredity, poor dietary habits, smoking, alcoholism, and Helicobacter pylori infection. Based on the biological characteristics of the tumor, gastric cancer can also be classified into different subtypes, such as intestinal, diffuse and mixed.
Treatment of gastric cancer usually includes surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted therapy. In recent years, significant progress has been made in drug development for gastric cancer, especially in the field of targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
- Targeted therapy drugs mainly target specific molecular targets of gastric cancer cells, such as HER2, VEGFR and EGFR. For example, for HER2-positive gastric cancer, Trastuzumab is an effective therapeutic agent. In addition, small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting VEGFR and EGFR, such as Afatinib and Regorafenib, have also shown some efficacy in gastric cancer treatment.
- Immunotherapy is an emerging direction in the field of gastric cancer treatment, which attacks cancer cells by activating the patient's own immune system. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as the PD-1 inhibitor Pembrolizumab and the CTLA-4 inhibitor Lpilimumab, have shown therapeutic potential in some gastric cancer patients. These drugs enhance the immune system's attack on cancer cells by unlocking the tumor's suppression of the immune system.
