FOLH1

FOLH1, known as Folate hydrolase 1, is a pivotal enzyme in folate metabolism. Found in tissues such as the prostate, brain, lung, and liver, it is encoded by the FOLH1 gene and is instrumental in maintaining intracellular folate levels through the hydrolysis of folate polyglutamate, a process essential for DNA synthesis and repair. Abnormal FOLH1 expression is correlated with the development of certain tumors, notably prostate cancer, making it a potential therapeutic target. Additionally, FOLH1's role in neurodegenerative diseases is under investigation, with its activity potentially influencing dopamine neuron loss and cell metabolism regulation.
