The protein encoded by OSM (Oncostatin M) is a pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the interleukin-6 (IL-6) family. It lacks widely recognized common aliases. OSM exerts biological effects by binding to heterodimeric receptors composed of OSM receptor β (OSMRβ) and either gp130 or LIFR, activating JAK/STAT, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways to regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation.
Aberrant OSM signaling is linked to inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, as well as cancer progression through promoting angiogenesis and metastasis. Preclinical studies investigate OSM-neutralizing antibodies and receptor antagonists as potential therapeutics, though no drugs targeting OSM have advanced to clinical stages.

IHC image of CSB-PA09694A0Rb diluted at 1:90 and staining in paraffin-embedded human liver cancer performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.
