IL23A

IL23A, or interleukin 23 alpha, is a gene located on chromosome 12. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of interleukin 23 (IL-23), which binds to the p40 subunit encoded by the IL12B gene to form the biologically active IL-23 heterodimer.IL-23 activates downstream signalling by binding to its specific receptor IL23R, mainly through the JAK-STAT pathway, especially STAT3 and STAT4 IL23A plays a key role in regulating the immune response, particularly in promoting Th17 cell-mediated immune responses.

Th17 cells are closely associated with the development of a variety of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis and multiple sclerosis . In addition, IL-23 plays a role in tumour immunity, influencing tumour growth and the immunosuppressive environment. Therefore, IL23A is an important molecule in the study of immune regulation and treatment of related diseases.
