ACVR1C

ACVR1C encodes the Activin A Receptor Type 1C protein, also known as ALK7. It is a member of the type I transforming growth factor - β (TGF - β) receptor family. ALK7 mainly transduces signals in the TGF - β signaling pathway. By binding to activin ligands, it phosphorylates Smad proteins, regulating cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis.
Abnormal ALK7 signaling has been linked to various diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and certain cancers. In drug development, efforts are being made to design ALK7 - targeted therapies. Some small - molecule inhibitors are under pre - clinical investigation to modulate its activity for potential treatment of related diseases.
