ACP5

ACP5, or tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5, is a conserved iron-containing glycoprotein encoded on chromosome 19. This isoenzyme is particularly abundant in alveolar macrophages and osteoclasts, where it contributes to ROS production, bone development, osteoblast regulation, and macrophage function. It's a marker for bone resorption and osteoclast activity, with RANKL known to enhance its expression via NFATc1 and c-Fos, thereby promoting osteoclastogenesis. ACP5 is pivotal for tumor prevention, monitoring, and treatment, as well as for driving innovative therapeutic strategies in human genetic disease development.
