Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Major protein in sweat, has surfactant properties. Has a role in temperature regulation by having a capacity to make hydrophobic surfaces wettable and so can function in promoting spreading and evaporation of sweat.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Latherin may represent a multifunctional surfactant protein, a wetting agent in sweat, in host defense against biofilm formation and to aid digestive PMID:21787340
  2. The amino acid sequence of latherin, determined from cDNA analysis, is highly conserved across four geographically dispersed equid species and is similar to a family of proteins only found previously in the oral cavity and associated tissues of mammals. PMID:19478940
