Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Hormone involved in the regulation of erythrocyte proliferation and differentiation and the maintenance of a physiological level of circulating erythrocyte mass. Binds to EPOR leading to EPOR dimerization and JAK2 activation thereby activating specific downstream effectors, including STAT1 and STAT3.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Developmental and compensatory lung growth involve paracrine erythropoietin signaling with parallel upregulation but differential processing of the erythropoietin receptor. PMID:15286000
  2. apical secretion of EPO involves a cholesterol-dependent mechanism probably not involving lipid rafts PMID:15916748
