NUP98

NUP98, also known as nuclear pore protein 98, has alternative names including ADAR2, ANUP96, and Nup98. NUP98 is a crucial component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC), primarily found in the cytoplasmic and nucleoplasmic regions of the NPC. NUP98 plays a role in the assembly and/or maintenance of the NPC, with Nup98 and Nup96 participating in bidirectional transport across the NPC. NUP98 regulates the transport of RNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm; its FG repeat domain at the N-terminus serves as an anchor site for large molecules during nuclear transport, while the C-terminal region contains RNA-binding sequences that facilitate RNA transport through the nucleus. Abnormal expression or fusion gene formation of NUP98 is associated with the development and progression of various myeloid tumors. It forms fusion genes through chromosomal translocations and interacts with multiple signaling molecules to regulate downstream transcription factor expression, thereby disrupting processes such as mitosis, gene transcription, and nuclear-cytoplasmic transport.
