NRAS

NRAS, known for its role as a neuroblastoma RAS virus oncogene homolog, is a pivotal GTP-binding protein encoded by the NRAS gene. This protein switches between active and inactive states by binding to GTP or GDP, thereby regulating cell signaling that controls growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. NRAS triggers the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK cascade, a pathway that governs gene transcription and the cell cycle, with significant implications for cell proliferation. Mutations in the NRAS gene can result in the perpetual activation of related proteins, contributing to the development of various cancers, including melanoma, colorectal cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer.
