IER3

IER3, Immediate Early Response 3, alias IEX-1. it is a gene whose expression is induced by a variety of stimuli in a wide range of cell types, such as growth factors, cytokines, ionising radiation, viral infections, etc. IER3 plays a role in cellular stress response, inflammation and tumourigenesis. Its mechanism of action involves interference with a variety of signalling pathways, particularly the NF-κB, MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signalling pathways.IER3 has a unique protein structure that bears no resemblance to that of other vertebrate proteins, which allows it to play a complex and, to some extent, contradictory role in cell cycle control and apoptosis.

The biological significance of IER3 is that its involvement in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Studies have shown that IER3 is associated with immune function and the physiology of the cardiovascular system. In mouse models, lack of IER3 expression leads to aberrant immune regulation and enhanced inflammatory responses, affecting blood pressure control and hypertension, as well as genomic stability. In addition, IER3 plays a role in tumourigenesis, although the exact mechanism remains incompletely understood. It may be involved in tumour development in a cell type-dependent manner, and future studies may establish the potential of IER3 as a new predictive marker and as a molecular target for human diseases such as cancer, inflammatory diseases or hypertension.
