CD8A

CD8A encodes the CD8 alpha chain protein, also commonly known as T-cell surface glycoprotein CD8 alpha chain. This protein is a crucial component of the CD8 complex on the surface of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. It binds to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules, facilitating T-cell recognition and activation. It is involved in the T-cell receptor signaling pathway.
Dysregulation of CD8A - related functions is associated with various diseases, such as cancer and autoimmune disorders. In cancer immunotherapy, targeting CD8 - related pathways has shown promise. There are ongoing efforts in drug development to enhance the anti - tumor activity of CD8 + T cells, aiming to improve patient outcomes.
