Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Involved in the ethylmalonyl-CoA pathway for acetate assimilation. Catalyzes the reversible condensation of glyoxylate and acetyl-CoA to L-malyl-CoA and the reversible condensation of glyoxylate and propionyl-CoA to yield beta-methylmalyl-CoA. It is also able to catalyze the cleavage of (S)-citramalyl-CoA to yield acetyl-CoA and pyruvate, although this reaction is not involved in the ethylmalonyl-CoA pathway.
Gene References into Functions
  1. study reports the crystal structures of Malyl-CoA lyase (MCL) from 2 different phylogenetic subgroups in apo-and substrate-bound forms; both the C. aurantiacus and the R. sphaeroides MCL contain elaborations on the canonical beta8/alpha8 TIM barrel fold and form hexameric assemblies PMID:24206647
