Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
May be involved in actively transporting phosphate into cells via Na(+) cotransport. It may be the main phosphate transport protein in the intestinal brush border membrane. May have a role in the synthesis of surfactant in lungs' alveoli.
Gene References into Functions
  1. This is the first evidence of an active Si transport protein in mammals and points towards an important role for Si in vertebrates and explains interactions between dietary phosphate and silicon. PMID:28179233
  2. NaPi-IIb is upregulated in the kidney in response to the active excretion of phosphate in HP diet-fed rats PMID:22235299
  3. NaPi-IIb (Slc34a2) is most probably involved in the reabsorption of P(i) from primary hepatic bile and thus might play an important role in the regulation of biliary P(i) concentration. PMID:15564340
  4. Intestinal NaPiIIb is the only phosphate transporter that can play a significant role in membrane transport of arsenate. PMID:18586044
