The nonhelical tail domain is involved in promoting KRT5-KRT14 filaments to self-organize into large bundles and enhances the mechanical properties involved in resilience of keratin intermediate filaments in vitro.

These findings strongly suggest that Krt-14 regulates osteoblast mineralization by organizing osteoblast derived ECM. PMID:26956522
In taste buds, the conversion of cytokeratin subtypes occurred from cytokeratin 14 to cytokeratin 8 at day 2-3, showing the differentiation from immature cells expressing cytokeratin 14 into mature or maturing cells expressing cytokeratin 8. PMID:17960487
