Results implicate an important role of CD59 in modulating NMO pathology in rats and demonstrate amplification of AQP4-IgG-induced NMO disease with CD59 knockout. PMID:28212662
Organ injury in neuromyelitis optica (NMO) seropositive CD59(-/-) rats was prevented by a complement inhibitor. Significant pathological changes in seropositive CD59(-/-) rats were not seen in optic nerve, spinal cord or brain, including circumventricular tissue.
