Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that regulates blood coagulation by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa in the presence of calcium ions and phospholipids. Exerts a protective effect on the endothelial cell barrier function.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Vascular endothelial damage in Lipopolysaccharide-induced sepsis model is attenuated by activated protein C. PMID:25813362
  2. APC treatment significantly improves pial microcirculation by reducing leukocyte adhesion and increasing functional capillary density PMID:22426124
  3. mutated Protein C did not appear to alter the levels of NFkB or fibrinogen in our model of hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation. PMID:21962741
  4. Xuebijing could upregulate EPCR and PAR1 mRNA and protein expression of rat aortic endothelial cells after LPS challenge. PMID:19278590
  5. activated protein C induces the reduction of the nuclear level of NF-kappaB p65 in hippocampal neurons at glutamate-induced excitotoxicity via binding to EPCR and subsequent PAR-1 activation and signaling PMID:19931359
  6. APC reduces stress-induced gastric mucosal injury by inhibiting the decrease in gastric mucosal blood flow through attenuation of the activated neutrophil-induced endothelial cell injury via inhibition of TNF-alpha production. PMID:14995995
  7. Low levels of protein C (PC) predict outcome as early as 10 hr after insult in a rat polymicrobial sepsis model and are associated with suppression of PC mRNA. PMID:16522789
  8. Activated protein C is a promising therapeutic option for hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion injury. PMID:18507760
  9. APC at low concentrations, activating PAR1, prevents the death of hippocampal and cortical neurons under conditions of glutamate excitotoxicity. PMID:18620539
  10. NO generated immediately after isoflurane exposure triggers downstream activation of NF-kappaB, resulting in subsequent upregulation of iNOS expression and NO synthesis that mediate APC-induced delayed cardioprotection PMID:18708911
  11. although PAR-1 agonism is solely responsible for APC-mediated improvement in systemic hemodynamics, both functions of APC play distinct roles in attenuating the response to injury in the kidney PMID:19092124
