Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Transcriptional coactivator for steroid receptors and nuclear receptors. Greatly increases the transcriptional activity of PPARG and thyroid hormone receptor on the uncoupling protein promoter. Can regulate key mitochondrial genes that contribute to the program of adaptive thermogenesis. Plays an essential role in metabolic reprogramming in response to dietary availability through coordination of the expression of a wide array of genes involved in glucose and fatty acid metabolism. Induces the expression of PERM1 in the skeletal muscle in an ESRRA-dependent manner. Also involved in the integration of the circadian rhythms and energy metabolism. Required for oscillatory expression of clock genes, such as ARNTL/BMAL1 and NR1D1, through the coactivation of RORA and RORC, and metabolic genes, such as PDK4 and PEPCK.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Study investigated the molecular basis of such effects focusing on a commonly studied polymorphism in pig Pgc1alpha, which changes a cysteine at position 430 (WT) of the protein to a serine (C430S); found that differential O-GlcNAcylation of Pgc1alpha regulates PCK1 activity and this molecular mechanism could explain at least in part the epistatic interaction between both genes. PMID:28644880
  2. Transcription of the gene was detected in adipose, muscle, kidney, liver, brain, heart and adrenal gland tissues, which is in agreement with the function of PPARGC1A in adaptive thermogenesis. PMID:16276098
  3. The purpose of this study was to screen for new single nucleotide polymorphisms in exon 8 of the porcine PPARGC1A gene and to test their possible association with production traits. PMID:17149556
  4. impact of PPARGC1A on energy and lipid metabolism in vivo, through several downstream target genes PMID:19875886
  5. Proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1A p.C430S genotypes significantly affected number (P < 0.05) and area (P < 0.01) of type I muscle fibre, and were significantly associated with muscle pH (P < 0.001) and lightness(P < 0.01). PMID:20412126
  6. The *2690T>C and *2864T>C polymorphisms in PPARGC1A can be used as genetic markers for selection toward improved meat quality. PMID:21748318
  7. The c.-2894G>A polymorphism in the 5' upstream region of the porcine PPARGC1A gene can be used as a meaningful molecular marker for simultaneous improvement of lean meat production and quality traits. PMID:21769481
  8. PPARGC1A may play a key role in down-regulating lipid deposition, and the SNPs with differential genotype distribution among three breeds may be related to gene expression and fat deposition. PMID:25004892
  9. Polymorphisms in PPARGC1A and CAPNS1 genes may affect meat quality traits. PMID:21680104
