Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Histone H1 protein binds to linker DNA between nucleosomes forming the macromolecular structure known as the chromatin fiber. Histones H1 are necessary for the condensation of nucleosome chains into higher-order structured fibers. Acts also as a regulator of individual gene transcription through chromatin remodeling, nucleosome spacing and DNA methylation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. histone H2A.X phosphorylation by DNA-dependent protein kinase is not affected by core histone acetylation, but it alters nucleosome stability and histone H1 binding PMID:20356835
  2. the C-terminal domain is the primary determinant of histone H1 binding to chromatin in vivo PMID:14985337
  3. H1 isoforms H1.0, H1.1, and H1.2 are non-responsive to hormone whereas prolonged dexamethasone treatment effectively dephosphorylated the H1.3, H1.4, and H1.5 isoforms PMID:11479299
