Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Involved in the formation of paranodal axo-glial junctions in myelinated peripheral nerves and in the signaling between axons and myelinating glial cells via its association with CNTNAP1. Participates in oligodendrocytes generation by acting as a ligand of NOTCH1. Its association with NOTCH1 promotes NOTCH1 activation through the released notch intracellular domain (NICD) and subsequent translocation to the nucleus. Interaction with TNR induces a repulsion of neurons and an inhibition of neurite outgrowth.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data indicate that Contactin-1 expression is dependent upon EBF factors; Cntn1 gene belongs to the expanding regulatory cascade driven by these transcriptional regulators so that changes in its activation may contribute to the Ebf2 null mutant phenotype PMID:25820347
  2. It plays a role in hippocampal synaptic plasticity and memory also in aged mice, suggesting that it acts on molecular pathways related to apoptosis and amyloid-beta production. PMID:25659859
  3. The F3/contactin plays a role in promoting adult hippocampal neurogenesis and that this effect correlates with improved synaptic function and memory. PMID:23939883
  4. Contactin-1 has roles in regulating myelination and nodal/paranodal domain organization in the central nervous system PMID:24385581
  5. In developing cerebral cortex and basal ganglia the F3/Contactin gene is mostly activated during early commitment of neuronal precursors. PMID:22579730
  6. The phenotype of the Cntn1 mice arises from dysfunction in the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nervous system. PMID:22242131
  7. Data show that TAG1 and F3 act antagonistically to control SHH-induced proliferation: F3 suppresses SHH-induced GNP proliferation and induces differentiation, whereas TAG1 antagonises F3. PMID:21205796
  8. The structural and functional properties, the mechanisms driving the regulated expression and on the developmental role of mouse F3/Contactin is reviewed. PMID:19372728
  9. these findings indicate that precise spatio-temporal regulation of TAG-1 and F3/contactin expression is critical for normal cerebellar morphogenesis PMID:12441289
  10. F3/contactin and caspr/paranodin traffic to the cell surface via a non-conventional pathway PMID:12972410
  11. Deficits in sensorimotor function, homing behavior, and motor activity in transgenic F3/contactin mice indicate that the finely coordinated expression of F3/contactin is key to the functional, as well as morphological maturation of the cerebellum. PMID:14667450
  12. These data provide evidence of a role for contactin in selectively regulating the cell surface expression and current densities of TTX-R but not TTX-S Na+ channel isoforms in nociceptive DRG neurons. PMID:16029194
  13. Contactin-1 is a functional receptor for neuroregulatory chondroitin sulfate-E. PMID:19075012
  14. Thus, our results suggest a contribution by DRG Na(v)1.6, and possibly Contactin to neuropathic pain in the neuroma model in mice. PMID:19524556
