Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)

Functions as key mediator in apoptosis and inflammation. Promotes caspase-mediated apoptosis. Induces proteolytic processing of caspa and caspa-dependent apoptosis. In innate immune response acts as an integral adapter in the assembly of NLRP1 inflammasomes which activate caspases caspa and caspb leading to processing and secretion of the proinflammatory cytokine il1b. The function as activating adapter in different types of inflammasomes is mediated by the pyrin and CARD domains and their homotypic interactions. Also involved in transcriptional activation of cytokines and chemokines independent of the inflammasome.

Expressed in the kidney, intestine and gill. Expressed at low levels in the heart.
