Description
Complement C5 occupies a pivotal branch point in the complement cascade, where its cleavage generates both the potent anaphylatoxin C5a and the membrane attack complex initiator C5b, making it a critical target for studying immune activation and therapeutic intervention. This full-length mature protein (aa 19–1676) demonstrates robust antibody binding with an EC50 of 1.867–2.192 ng/mL in functional ELISA and a binding affinity of 0.285 nM by surface plasmon resonance, providing quantitative evidence that supports its use in complement activation assays, inhibitor screening campaigns targeting the terminal pathway, and as a positive control in complement-based ELISAs.
