Description

BZW2 functions as an eIF5-mimic protein that competes with eIF5 for ribosomal binding, positioning it as a translational regulation factor with emerging significance in cell proliferation and stress response pathways. This recombinant full-length human BZW2 (aa 1–419) carries an N-terminal GST tag and demonstrates confirmed binding activity to OMA1 in a functional ELISA, with an EC50 of 45.42–72.22 μg/ml against immobilized OMA1 at 5 μg/ml. The validated protein-protein interaction supports use in binding assays, pull-down experiments, and ELISA-based screening of interaction partners involved in mitochondrial stress signaling. Produced in *E. coli* with greater than 90% purity by SDS-PAGE, this preparation provides a suitable basis for in vitro functional studies and serves as a reliable positive control in protein interaction assays exploring BZW2's role in translational control.

Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
May be involved in neuronal differentiation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These data demonstrated that the knockdown of BZW2 suppresses protein phosphorylation in the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. These observations suggest that BZW2 is upregulated and has a pro-tumor effect in osteosarcoma via activation of the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and thus is a potential target for gene therapy. PMID:28791373
  2. results reveal a surprising role for BZW1 and BZW2 in maintaining homeostatic stringency of start codon selection, and taking into account recent biochemical, genetic and structural insights into eukaryotic initiation, suggest a model for BZW1 and BZW2 function PMID:29470543
  3. Data show that eIF5-mimic protein (5MP) represses non-AUG translation by competing with translation initiation factor 5 (eIF5) for the Met-tRNAi-binding factor eIF2. PMID:28981728
  4. overexpression of eIF5 and 5MP induces translation of ATF4 PMID:27325740
  5. 5MP1 (BZW2) acts as a partial mimic and competitor of eIF5, interfering with the key steps by which eIF5 regulates eIF2 function. PMID:21745818
