Description
GDF5 plays a central role in chondrogenesis and skeletal joint formation, making it a critical tool for osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation studies. This tag-free recombinant human GDF5, encompassing the full mature protein (aa 382–501), demonstrates an ED50 of less than 1.0 μg/ml in ATDC5 alkaline phosphatase induction assays, corresponding to a specific activity exceeding 1000 IU/mg—confirming robust BMP receptor-binding potency suitable for stem cell differentiation protocols and receptor-ligand interaction studies via SPR or ELISA. The E. coli expression system produces a non-glycosylated form that provides a defined, homogeneous baseline for mechanistic experiments where glycosylation variables must be excluded. Purity exceeding 95% by SDS-PAGE combined with endotoxin levels below 0.1 EU/μg satisfies the criteria typical for cell-based differentiation assays, in vivo cartilage regeneration models, and use as a quantitative ELISA standard.
