Required for retention of late Golgi membrane proteins. Component of the retrieval machinery that functions by direct interaction with the cytosolic tails of certain TGN membrane proteins during the sorting/budding process at the prevacuolar compartment. Binds phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns(P3)).

Grd19/Snx3p functions as a cargo-specific adapter for the retromer complex, establishing a precedent for a mechanism by which sorting nexins expand the repertoire of retromer-dependent cargos. PMID:17420293
In the presence and absence of iron, Fet3-Ftr1 transits an endosomal compartment where a subunit of the multivesicular body sorting receptor (Vps27), Snx3/Grd19, and retromer proteins colocalize. PMID:18768754
