MASP2

MASP2, mannose-binding lectin-associated serine protease 2, is a protein encoded by the human body and is part of the complement system.MASP2 is mainly derived from the liver and is a key effector enzyme in the lectin pathway. Its mechanism of action is that upon activation of the lectin pathway, MASP2 is activated by mannose-binding lectin (MBL) or other pattern-recognition molecules, which in turn cleaves C4 and C2, forms C3 convertase, activates C3 and C5, and ultimately leads to the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC), which exerts a cytolytic effect. In terms of signalling pathways, activation of MASP2 is central to the lectin pathway of the complement system, and through its serine protease activity, MASP2 is involved in the regulation of immune responses and inflammatory processes. Biologically, MASP2 is essential for host immune defence, and its aberrant function has been associated with the development of a variety of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.The regulation of MASP2 activity provides new strategies for the treatment of related diseases.
