HAND2

The protein encoded by the HAND2 gene plays an indispensable role in heart development. Although its specific molecular structure may vary in the literature, HAND2 functions critically in multiple biological signaling pathways. Specifically, during the development of the second heart field, HAND2 is closely associated with the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways, which are crucial for cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation. Furthermore, HAND2 also influences the expression of FGFs (a class of growth factors) that play important roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. In mouse models with HAND2 knockout, cardiac developmental defects such as hypoplasia of the right ventricle and outflow tract defects have been observed, along with decreased cell proliferation and increased apoptosis and autophagy, further confirming the importance of HAND2 in heart development. Additionally, in humans, the activity of HAND2 is associated with delivery time and may influence the pregnancy process by regulating estrogen activity. In summary, HAND2 exhibits complex and crucial functions in multiple biological processes such as heart development, cell proliferation, and pregnancy.
