Bglap2

Bglap2, from the osteocalcin/matrix Gla protein family, is an osteoblast-secreted protein rich in gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla). Though it plays a minor role in bone mineralization and density, Bglap2 significantly influences physiological processes like blood sugar regulation, physical movement, brain development, cognitive function, and male fertility. It acts as a marker for bone formation, and its serum levels could signal metabolic syndrome. Bglap2 also engages with apatite and calcium to guide bone mineralization and is key in the development and maturation of osteoblasts.
